"Spider Bites", Pneumonia & Black Eyes...Oh My!!

I know, I know... FINALLY! Well its been about 3 months since I've updated my blog and I hear about it on a weekly basis how behind I am. So this time I'm going to try to keep it up. We shall see...

My poor baby girl got a black eye from a kid at daycare, what I thought were spider bites, and pneumonia all in July.

I came to pick her up from the sitter and before I could get all the way in the door, Lola immediately  ran up to me, started whining and said that "Blaine hit my head!"  After bending down to comfort her I saw the goose egg starting to appear above her eyebrow. The sitter explained that the two kids were both trying to get in a chair at the same time and bumped heads. Actually it was more like head to face! My poor baby got her first black eye. She looked so pitiful.

This is right after we got in the car. I was on the phone with Chris, who was out of town and he wanted to see her eye. Doesn't look so bad he said...

A couple of hours later... It started turning red & swelling pretty good.

You can really see the swelling in this one.

And this is the next morning. I had to get a warm washcloth and gently wipe her face just so she could get her eye open. :(

Luckily after a couple of days the swellling and redness was gone and she was back to her normal self again. UNTIL...

I found what looked like two spider bites on Lola that following weekend. They were little red bumps and they were itchy and had a little dot in the center. I wasn't too worried about them because she didn't complain about them. I just saw her scratching them occasionally. Well then the bumps turned into what looked like a blister!  I was then officially freaked out! The blister part was about the size of a pencil eraser and looked to me like it hurt. Since it was Sunday, being the crazy mother I am, I took her to Le Bonheur. We sat in the waiting room for no more than 15 mins.  They then took Lola's vitals, put her in a room and gave me this gown to put on her that was made for a 10 year old. She looked cute in it anyway!

**Sorry they are so blurry, they were taken with my iPhone and my kid was climbing the walls**
And to top it all off, the doctor took one look at the bumps, said that they were doing just what they are supposed to, and sent me home along with a $500 bill!!! Needless to say I was rather upset! And to add insult to injury, Lola's pediatrician said that they probably weren't even spider bites to begin with. Since they were right under where her diaper always sits (one on her hip & one on her upper thigh) they were probably little heat bumps!!! UGH! But I guess that's what I get for freaking out.

Well a couple of weeks went by and Lola ended up with a cold or something. Her doctor has always told me to wait at least two weeks before bringing her in, of course unless it is really bad. I picked her up from the sitter about a week or so into this sickness and she just wasn't acting right. Her breathing was loud and fast. Once I got her in the car she started coughing and couldn't stop. I only live about 5 blocks from the sitter's house and I thought I was going to have to stop along the way and smack her on the back. It really started scaring me. So once I got home I decided to take her to the after hours clinic. We didn't wait very long in the waiting room before we were put in a room.

The doctor listened to her breath for what seemed like 30 mins. It was probably more like 5 but it started concerning me that it was taking longer than the few seconds it normally takes. He said that she has pneumonia and that if we had come in earlier he would have sent her to the hospital for a chest x-ray!  I was so worried! He ordered her a breathing treatment in the office. She was NOT a fan of that at all!!

She was tolerating this contraption on her face pretty well at first. But shortly after this picture, she ripped it off and started crying saying that it was scaring her. Poor baby. The nurse tried to comfort her and put it back on but she wasn't having it. She only had a little bit left so the nurse decided that she'd had enough. Then the doctor came in and prescribed her an antibiotic shot, 3 oral antibiotics, some decongestant, and an inhaler!  She felt terrible once we got home and all she wanted to do was lay on the couch and watch Dora.

She ended up falling asleep on the couch after about 10 minutes of laying there. She had and exhausting and tramatic day to say the least. But thank God she got a little better within a few days and was 100% about a week after that.
